“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” – Ferris Bueller
100 episodes?! Where does all the time go? I think when Charlie and I started this podcast, we said we’d try it for a year and see how it pans out… and now here we are! So looking back at 100 episodes over the past five and a bit years, what are the key things that stand out?
"Thank you for your cooperation." Murphy
The support - A massive thank you to all our listeners and followers. Your lovely comments, feedback and reviews really do make a difference. To put it bluntly, podcasting isn’t free - we do it because we love doing it. It’s a chance for Charlie and me to catch up and discuss the things we love - mainly movies! The fact that other people, from all over the world, enjoy listening to our ramblings inspires us to keep podding away.
Despite the logistics - I am in Newcastle in the UK and Charlie is in Paris - we’ve made it work and we’re thankful for everyone sticking with us despite some questionable audio in our first year! We both juggle young families and busy day jobs but this podcast means a lot to us both. It was one of the few things keeping us sane during the pandemic and various lockdowns!
Our Patreons - we launched our Patreon channel at the end of 2021 and are massively grateful for all our supporters. It allows us to do different things like our Recent and Revelations series and specials like our James Bond rankings. The support we get helps cover our production costs.
The guests - A big thank you to our guests, Mark O’Connell, Andy Hughes, Timon Singh, Ben Dadds, Liam Dempsey and Matt Brothers (from Spocklight Podcast, our lovely sister, Sophia Wise, Niel Bushnell and most recently for the big 100, our old friends, first neighbours, 80’s movie educators, John and James Glendinning! Thanks also to Em at Verbal Diorama for championing us, Kobi and Helen at Flixwatcher Podcast and Pedros from CagedIn podcast for having us as guests.
“You can’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs!” The Joker
You can’t please everyone. The whole point of the podcast is to revisit the films we grew up with. We’ve grown up (though some would debate that), and films have aged, some better than others. We’re surprised at how certain films have grown on us, and some, while tinged with nostalgia, aren’t as great when viewed with older eyes.
Ultimately, films mean different things to different people. If you love something that Charlie and I have given a less-than-glowing review, it’s just our opinion, and we don’t want to ruin your enjoyment of it. TLDR - we continue to apologise for trashing Tango and Cash!
We’re always looking to improve and welcome feedback, suggestions or just wry observations.
We’ve had so much fun covering some of our favourite films and have met some wonderful people along the way. There are plenty more classics to cover on our ever-growing list, and we look forward to sharing our thoughts on them in the future. Here’s to another hundred (and more hopefully)!
Thanks again for listening, happy holidays and wishing you all the best for 2023!
George & Charlie
